Thank you to everyone who looked at http://www.bigcoop.com/TK319600 and joined. As I said in the last issue, I think their rebate and reward program are pretty darn good. And, like I also said, if the program turns out to be a dud, we didn’t lose any money.

OK, I will put up the advertising page. Heck, why not? We all need useful products and the only way we learn about them is through advertising. Like bigcoop, it won’t cost you a dime unless you decide to buy something. Everyone who advertises on S2S will have to provide a guarantee. I will be in touch with everyone who said they want a spot.

If you wish to become an advertiser, write me at: tom@senior2senior.org and let me know.

I understand this newsletter isn’t for everyone so people will unsubscribe. If I may be so bold as to ask you to send me an email telling me what you found not to your liking, it will help me improve the content.

You will still be unsubscribed but the feedback will prove invaluable to me. As the Beetles said in a song, “I get by with a little help from my friends…” or words thereabouts so a little help will let me get by.

I am in the throes of publishing a household product toxicity pamphlet. Seniors are second only to children in the emergency room for poisoning. Regardless of age, the picture is not a pretty one and if you read the chapter on poisoning in the manual, it hits the topic right on the head.

What if you could get the template for this pamphlet and, if so inclined, turn it into both a revenue source for yourself and a helping hand for everyone in the community? Write me if you want details. Use: tom@senior2senior.org as the request address.

I bought a JVC digital camera and it performs as promised. To get the movie from the camera and onto a DVD, I bought Studio Version 9 by Pinnacle.

I have conquered the downloading (from camera to computer program) process but can’t get passed this step with any success. My first and only attempt at burning a DVD resulted in a disaster. I tell you this only because I need some help.

If you have a working knowledge of Nero (installed at purchase) or Studio Version 9, please write me at: deadrun@jps.net with DVD as the subject. I would appreciate any help as I can’t climb over the mental blocks this “what I thought would be” simple project has in my path.

I, and probably you too, look at a ton of programs on the Internet. As I said last issue, if joining does not cause monetary damage, i.e., loss of money, I will pass along the ones I join so you can peruse them for yourself.

I cannot think of anyone who would not want a few extra bucks and especially for nothing. This one deposited $25 (USD) into my account which supposedly will be available for me to spend on June 22, 2005.

http://www.greenzap.com/senior9 is attempting to become bigger than paypal. Their success remains to be seen but since my outlay is zero dollars I joined.

You should know some people have labeled this program a hoax and if you put greenzap into google you will easily find articles talking about them. However, since I didn’t outlay a single penny (yes I’m repeating myself), I don’t feel the least bit hoaxed.

If I get to use their $25 on June 22, 2005, I’ll buy some supplies for this beast called a computer and be a happy camper. If it turns out greenzap is a hoax, I still won’t be out a single red cent nor will I feel bad or disappointed that another Internet program was less than advertised.

Look at it and make up your own mind. From what I read on their site, they are worldwide in scope.

Let me close this issue’s comments with a repeat of my philosophy and its influence on this newsletter. I will never knowingly put anything in these pages that is/are designed to fleece or injure you mentally, physically or financially.

That isn’t my makeup. If I mention something, it is because I’ve already participated in one form or another and, if you so desire, you can participate, or not, too. The choice is always yours.

Not much else to say as best as I can tell.

2.  Article

The following excerpt is from the Federal Trade Commission’s website. The full article is not reprinted as the point is well made in the cosigner’s notice.

I am not familiar with the laws outside of the U.S. but I would bet cosigning a loan carries the same obligations as it does here. The caveat is obvious: read and heed.

Start---

Cosigning a Loan

What would you do if a friend or relative asked you to cosign a loan? Before you answer, make sure you understand what cosigning involves. Under federal law, creditors are required to give you a notice that explains your obligations. The cosigner’s notice states:

You are being asked to guarantee this debt. Think carefully before you do. If the borrower does not pay the debt, you will have to. Be sure you can afford to pay if you have to, and that you want to accept this responsibility.

You may have to pay up to the full amount of the debt if the borrower does not pay.

You may also have to pay late fees or collection costs, which increase this amount.

The creditor can collect this debt from you without first trying to collect from the borrower.* The creditor can use the same collection methods against you that can be used against the borrower, such as suing you, garnishing your wages, etc. If this debt is ever in default, that fact may become a part of your credit record.

This notice is not the contract that makes you liable for the debt.

*Depending on your state, this may not apply. If state law forbids a creditor from collecting from a cosigner without first trying to collect from the primary debtor, this sentence may be crossed out or omitted altogether.

End---

Until next issue,

Tom Koziol
