1.  Publisher’s Comments

We have added a new site to our growing site family:

http://www.articlesaplenty.com

Just as the name implies, it is an article directory. If you are an author, would be author or know an author or would be author, this is the place to submit your writings.

By the way, to the best of my knowledge it is the ONLY article directory on the Net with a category devoted specifically to Senior Citizens. So please, take advantage of your latest resource.

I am compiling a book of “sappy” stories. You know the kind. They make you cry, laugh or just say, yeah, that’s right. I have about 15 and am looking for more. Here’s your chance to send a sap a sappy story. Note: If the story has a named author w/copyright please include this information or I will not be able to use it.

I have finally put up the ad page: http://www.senior2senior.org/ad.html It is exclusively for Senior Moment© subscribers. You can be on this page for $2 per month or $20 per year. You decide.
I have put a banner for one of my programs on the site so you can see how the page will be set up. You do not need a banner as a text ad will display just as well.

If you submit banner code, the banner cannot be any larger than the one already on the site. It is there to give you an idea of how big yours should be.

Text ads are limited to 5 lines of 65 characters per line. This includes urls, links and email addresses.

Links/advertising promoting hate, porn, illegal activities, etc. will NOT be accepted. I check every link and every url so please don’t submit anything of this nature.

I accept payment through paypal using deadrun@jps.net as the paypal “send to” address. For those who elect not to use paypal, mail your check to the address at the end of this issue made out to the Ministries.

I was supposed to have this page up and running a month ago but stuff being stuff, well, it happens. So, to everyone who said they wanted to advertise, please accept my apology for being late but the page is now ready to go.

Send your ad to: tom@senior2senior.org with the subject: Advertising.

Here is a math trick that, to me, is one of those wow, gee-whiz type of tricks.
1. Grab a calculator. (you won't be able to do this one in your head)
2. Key in the first three digits of your phone number (NOT the area code)
3. Multiply by 80
4. Add 1
5. Multiply by 250
6. Add the last 4 digits of your phone number
7. Add the last 4 digits of your phone number again.
8. Subtract 250
9. Divide number by 2
I performed the instructions several times because of the answer. I like this kind of stuff and hope you do too.

The second set of terms (first set was in issue #14) I believe are relevant to what we seniors call our life’s affairs.

(1) Guardian – A person named in a will whose role is to protect the interests of the deceased’s minor children.

(2) Health Care Proxy – authorizes someone to make medical decisions for you if you are unable to do so. Also called a durable power of attorney for health care.

Next issue I will have information on a topic I simply call Break The Pattern, Break The Disease. It is truly enlightening.

2.  Article

I want to thank everyone who sent me info on the stroke article and I hope you visited the Harvard site and did a stroke assessment for yourself and significant other. Since I believe this thing called stroke is so important, I’m making it the article again this issue.

So you don’t have to wade through a ton of information here are just 2 of the emails I received. I believe the 3 signs listed in the last issue, while not an end all be all, are of benefit and may save a life. Heck, it might even be yours or mine.

By the way, my wife did her own research and determined the 3 signs are a step in the right direction. Years ago she almost graduated from college as a full blown physical therapist but a little thing called money forced her to quit school and enter the workforce. She relied on her rather intense training and updated articles to come to her conclusion just to be clear on this matter.

Remember, this is by no means medical advice. For that, always consult your doctor or health care provider.

Carolyn was kind enough to send this (I’ve extracted the pertinent info) about the stroke article:

I went to www.truthorfiction.com <http://www.truthorfiction.com>; & typed
in Recognizing A Stroke.

This is what it said,

*Simple Test to Determine Whether a Person is Having a Stroke-Truth!*
According to the web site of the American Stroke Association, this eRumor is
true. The American Stroke Association is a division of the American Heart
Association.

In an article published in February of 2003, the ASA says that a 60-second
test can help determine whether someone may be experiencing a stroke.

--- end of Carolyn’s email---

Erv sent this along:

Below are 4 web sites that refer to recognizing a stroke.

The new 3 step method to determine if a stroke is emanate has not been widely accepted by the medical community.

Regards,

Erv
