I do not maintain the information on this page is complete especially given the nature of change in privacy and credit laws. The health field also is in the state of constant flux. However, it is extensive enough for anyone wishing this type of information and certainly gives the researcher a head start. This material is from a variety of sources believed reliable and is not intended as medical, legal or financial advice. It is merely resource and information in nature. HOW TO FIND DOCTOR'S CREDENTIALS AND COMPLAINTS AGAINST THEM: I googled “doctor’s+credentials” (just like that) and this is a bit of what I found. It seems the site most mentioned by articles, blogs, etc. was http://www.abms.org They are the American Board of Medical Specialists and allow up to 5 free searches a day. The American Medical Association has two sites: http://www.webapps.ama-assn.org/doctorfinder/home.html?apsamahg.htm Their second site is geared for patients. California has two separate resources: Other resources are in your county or state. For example, if you live in California, in addition to the above two sites, you would go to the website of the State Department of Consumer Affairs. Other states have State Boards of Registration. All states, but not all counties, have a Medical Society. Your local librarian may have a book called the Annual Book of Licensed Doctors. I also found sites wanting payment for searches. If you want to use them, please do. However, I won’t mention them here. HEALTH RESOURCES: HIPAA The Department of Health and Human Services Office of Civil Rights provides extensive information on the Health Insurance Portability and Accounting Act, commonly known only as HIPAA. Their website: http://www.hhs.gov/ocr/hipaa details the national standards for medical privacy while their site: www.hhs.gov is the starting point to get your questions answered. You must navigate to HIPAA FAQs by clicking on questions in the upper-right corner of the page and following the links to "Privacy of health information / HIPAA."
