One reason folks have problems with their computers is not enough memory. An easy way to check the amount of memory on your machine is to press the Windows key and "Pause/Break" key at the same time. The pop up screen will display your memory as it exists at that moment in time. ----- ----- ----- This site looks pretty helpful since it, as of this date, isn't loaded with advertising:

The url extension tells you what you will find once you get there. ----- ----- ----- While I'm on fitness, here is an easy way to decide whether you want to spend the money on that fitness DVD you see advertised. Go to your local rent a movie store and I'd bet for two or three dollars you can rent it for two or three days.
Enuf said, right? ----- ----- ----- If you read this NL, you know I spent 6 days in the hospital in July. But, did you know you are entitled to a daily print out of your bill? At least in the U.S.
All you have to do is ask.
Why would you want a daily printout?
To compare the daily charges w/the final version. Too many hospitals have too many irregularities not to get a daily copy. Not only are you entitled to a daily copy but they are free. ----- ----- ----- Speaking of hospitals, did you know almost every hospital has something called a patient advocate? These folks supposedly help you if you are over charged or if there is some other glitch.
My wife was having problems with getting approval paperwork for an upcoming operation. A trip to the PA and bingo! the paperwork was in our mail box w/in three days.
I don't guarantee a smooth sailing every time but, one they are free and two, they exist to help the patient.
Use them. ----- ----- ----- Speaking of people who are designed to help people consider someone called an ombudsman at your local newspaper. Call and ask your local fish wrap if they have such a person. If not, explain your tale of woe and ask who at the paper may help.
You will never know if you don't ask. And, worse yet, you won't get any help if you don't ask. ----- ----- ----- When it comes to blood pressure, I can never remember the upper number is called the systolic and the lower number is called the diastolic. The appropriate range for the the systolic is 120-139 while the diastolic range is 80-89.
The numbers cited are the latest "approved" numbers and, like everything else in this world, are subject to adjustment as a result of new studies. I don't know when, or if, they will change but I do the more informed you are, the better off (read healthier) you will be.
As always, check with your personal care physician.

I attempt to make this NL as universal as possible, i.e. useful for people in England as well as Canada and every other country in which subscribers live. Today's "article" is actually a joint venture website by the National Institute on Aging and the National Library of Medicine, both members of the U.S. National Institute of Health.
This site features health topics for older adults and I believe, for example, cancer is the same no matter where you live. If you have lung cancer in South Africa and I have lung cancer in America, guess what, we both have lung cancer. The cause may be different but not the disease.

won't cure either of us but it will give us some great information and a starting point to learn more about a host of maladies (no matter where we live).
