In this issue...
I need to one, make a correction and two, give you a few Christmas presents. You don't even have to celebrate Christmas to enjoy these presents.
First, the correction...
http://www.snopes.com/politics/immigration/bankofamerica.asp is the corrected link for the story about illegal immigrants not having to have a social security number to get a credit card. Thanks to an astute subscriber who caught the error in the last issue.
Two tax tips in one...
although it may seem too late for tax planning. These two will work even if you wait until Dec 31st. Number one, if you get a holiday bonus, put it in your IRA. You have been surviving without it, right? If yes is the answer, take your bonus and make a deduction out of it.
The second tax tip is really a simple one. Use your credit card to pay deductible expenses. Charitable contribution comes to mind as one that can be put on your credit card. The IRS considers the contribution as having been made in the year it was charged.
A caveat - always consult with your personal tax advisor. I am not one. I only make suggestions that I believe can help you reduce your tax burden.
If you are heading off...
for the holidays, you may wish to pay attention to these 7 tips.
1. Have the psot office hold your mail. 2. Stop newspaper delivery. 3. Adjust your thermostat to no lower than 55. 4. Set automatic timers for your lights to mimic your normal patterns. 5. Unplug sensitive appliances such as computers, televisions and microwave ovens. 6. Turn off water supply to toilets and your washing machine. 7. Let your security service and/or the local police know your house will be empty.

I know it is the holiday...
but I can't ignore this statement from the guy who is supposed to be our next president.
"My friends, we live in the greatest nation in the history of the world. I hope you'll join with me as we try to change it." -- Barrack Obama
I wonder what this ******** has in mind for us...
Here is a freebie from google...
that should save you money if you use the phone to find telephone numbers. Go to:
http://www.google.com/goog411
I think it is a great idea. But that's me and not you, right?
This may or may not be considered a Christmas gift...
but it is something you should know. It is an eye opening (to me at least) article on global warming. Again, it is just me passing along information. You make your own decisions.
A joke forwarded by one senior...
to me and then forwarded, via this NL, on to you.
New Wine for Seniors
California vintners in the Napa Valley area, which primarily produce Pinot Blanc, Pinot Noir and Pinot Grigio wines, have developed a new hybrid grape that acts as an anti-diuretic.
It is expected to reduce the number of trips older people have to make to the bathroom during the night.
The new wine will be marketed as...
PINO MORE
I HEARD IT THROUGH THE GRAPEVINE
I just couldn't help it
(That's how it read in my email.)
I get emails from...
readers asking me how to reduce their expenses or increase their incomes. I try to provide relevant answers. A friend of mine sent me this link and I believe it provides an incentive to begin to fix what is probably our biggest problem.
What you will see if you click the link is a page detailing corrupt politicians in the USA. For those who don't live in the USA, I feel certain you have as many, if not more, corrupt politicians.
My response to this kind of absolute thievery is to strip each one of these bastards of everything they own and add the money to the social security fund. That isn't going to do anything in the beginning. However, IMHO, it will prevent future abuse.
I realize that isn't a fool proof guarantee but it comes damned close. When I say strip them of everything, I mean it literally. These foul smelling beasts should be tossed on the streets and have to beg for food and shelter. They should be barred from seeking aid and attendance from homeless shelters and food pantries.
I could go on for hours but I think you can grasp my disatste for these animals. I included this link becasue it may serve as the catalyst for one or more people to mount a crusade in their area against their local professional (and probably corrupt) politician in 2009.
Finally, from our family to yours...
Merry Christmas and happy holidays. I make this exclamation based in the intent behind the spirit of the season. I know not everyone celebrates Christmas but why not make this time one in which we truly wish each other the best of the best and then try to act like we mean it in the year that follows.
Until next issue,
Tom Koziol
