25 days and counting for those of us who celebrate Christmas. John Boden's below article offers suggestions on buying gifts for seniors.
Since I like giving things away, there are several Christmas presents in this issue. Yes, you have to click on links to read about them but I promise they are truly gifts whether you celebrate Christmas or not. ----- ----- ----- I think I have found the next google. I believe that so much, I'm helping the affiliate manager write not only the FAQs but marketing segments and page verbiage. To date, there are over 20,000 members and growing by the minute.
Click on: http://www.bigdaddypays.com/sandalwood and check it out. Take advantage of the free membership, look it over and see what you think. Remember, if you do not wish to participate, you will be out zero dollars. But if you do participate, Katie bar the door.
Bigdaddy is also heavily into city portals. I own the one for Reno. There are so many businesses in Reno/Sparks I should be busy for years signing up advertisers.
I don't get excited over too many Internet "opportunities" but this one caught my eye. BTW, the affiliate manager happens to be a long time Internet friend who helped me out when I first jumped into this electronic whiz bang.
You know I don't tell you about anything that isn't honest and doesn't have the potential to reward you handsomely for your efforts. God bless. ----- ----- ----- Hopefully, in the next issue of this NL, I will have one whale of a Christmas gift. It is something I use but it won't be available again until Jan '07. The explanation will be part of the package. ----- ----- ----- Speaking of Christmas gifts, here is an ebook by one smart pet trainer. If you know anyone with pets in need of training, pass this along:

http://www.senior2senior.org/movies.html ----- ----- ----- More resources and jokes have been added to their respective pages. ----- ----- ----- Happy holiday to one and all even if you don't officially celebrate Christmas. Heck, with a name like Christmas, it just sounds like an event one would want to celebrate. ----- ----- -----

Gifts For the Elderly by John Boden
Can't we get Grandma something nice for the holidays this year?
It is not easy to think of a gift that an elder will really appreciate or use. This is especially true for those who are limited in their activities, are home bound, live in a facility, or suffer from dementia. The effort you make will bring a big morale boost and happy moments to someone who is often isolated and lonely.
Try to think of things that the elder will interact with after the holiday is past. An example is to give a plant instead of cut flowers. In fact, add a container that can be used for watering and some plant food. Each time they care for the plant they will remember you and it will bring a smile to their face.
Okay that all sounds great, but what about the hard part, thinking of and finding the right gift. To get your thought process flowing here are a few more ideas: Talking books, Scrap book, Photo album, Large print books, Picnic (indoors is okay), meal in basket, with silver, napkins and candles, Teddy bear that is soft and cuddly , Music, or even better, make a CD of songs that have special meaning.
Often those suffering from dementia will react to music in a way that is beyond their normal awareness. You may want to give music extra consideration if your loved one suffers from dementia. Let your imagination loose and the right gift idea will come to you.
A word of caution. Stay away from, Sweets (diabetes), Alcohol (Drug Interaction), Hard to use items, (Small print, dials, buttons, and almost anything that comes with directions)
Happy holidays to you and yours. Until next issue,
Tom Koziol
