I don't know if this will...

work for anyone else, but it works for us. About a year ago my wife and I both were ill so the week's laundry piled up. Looking at the stack of clothes and not really feeling like washing the pile load by load we loaded it into the car and went to the local laundromat.

That doesn't sound like a big deal except we learned a lesson or two. Number one, we were surprised at how little time it took for us to wash and dry (the dryers are free by the way) the stack. Number two, the cost was the same or less than what it would have cost to do it at home.

Obviously, water and electricity charges factor into the equation as does drive time. But, and this is a big but, I would bet your water and electricity charges are as high as ours. Also, we could wash ALL of the clothes at once and be done in an hour and a half as opposed to taking all day at the house.

As a bonus we got to know the attendants and about once every two months, we get to do the laundry for free. It is their way of saying thank you for patronizing their establishment. This isn't a big deal but it certainly is icing on the cake.

I am not advocating this as a way to save big dollars. I am saying it is one way of tackling a huge necessity (washing and drying clothes) without too much physical labor and at a cost that is equal to or less than what it would be if done at home.

I didn't know that...

meditation can lower blood pressure. I read an article stating 10 minutes a day of quiet time (read meditating) can reduce blood pressure. If you have chronically high blood pressure don't rely on meditation to lower it to an acceptable level.

Consult your doctor and hopefully (s)he can help you. On the other hand, don't completely rule out the use of meditation. It can't hurt so why not try it, right?

A study in 2005...

by the Environmental Working Group (EWG.org) of the umbilical-cord blood of 10 newborns from across the U.S. found 217 neurotoxins. When you think that toxins, like lead for example, can destroy the brain, it is pretty scary that the civilized world keeps manufacturing and distributing chemicals each year to the tune of hundreds without any testing.

As adults, we carry -well, nobody knows exactly how many - toxins in our system. As well as not knowing how many exist in our system, we don't know how the new toxins will react with the old toxins.

This scares the hell out of me. How about you?

I am sickened at...

how much time, money, energy and resources the FDA spends on scrutinizing the vitamin and supplement industry. Don't get me wrong, this industry needs to be scrutinized but not at the expense of our fruits, vegatables, milk and meat.

This past salmonella outbreak is a great example. About 1300 people in 43 states got sick. Some died. Mind you they got sick or died eating the vegetables we're supposed to be eating for our health.

I wonder how much money the FDA watchdogs are pocketing in under the table deals from the mega growers and distributors. That is the only reason I can come up with for their lack of oversight.

Here's a number that...

is a mind blower. Approximately 5 million Americans have Alzheimer's disease. I don't know what it is for the world at large but it has to be staggering. From what I read, nutrition plays a big part in helping to stave off this nasty disease.

I write this hoping you will do your own research and become educated in this arena.

Here is another...

one of those things called food for thought. Studies show optimists are not only healthier than pessimists but they live longer. Combine this with meditation and you may live to be a happy "old fogey." <LOL>

Did you know...

capsaicin is the stuff that gives chilies their "hot" zing? If you are not a person who can eat super hot flavored foods but still like a little hotness, remove the inner ribs along with the seeds before you put the pepper in the dish. This will tone down the heat somewhat.

Until next issue,

Tom Koziol
