I don't know much about...

fenugreek but an article I recently read said it has been used for thousands of years to control blood sugar and cholesterol. The ancient Egyptians (1000 B.C.) used it as an agent in embalming fluid. Maybe that's why I don't know much about it <g>.

Touted as a multi-purpose herb, it has been used as an aphrodisiac, enhance the appeal of stale fodder for livestock, roasted and brewed like coffee and used as a yellow dye for clothing.

If any of the above tickles your fancy for this herb, please research it to see if it is your cup of tea...

If your eyes are aching...

from sitting in front of the computer for hours on end or for whatever reason, rub your palms together until they are nice and warm. Place them over your eyes for 30 seconds and voila! instant relief.

Don't forget walking...

as a stress reliever. Some people have formed walking clubs and use their local malls in the before the stores open hours to get in a mile or two of healthy walking. If you are someone who has to be at work, use your lunch period instead. Round up a co-worker or two and get out and move.

Those of us who...

spend lots of time at our computers either at home or at work can get pretty stressed out. Another way to relieve this stress is to take a ten minute break and do stretches. You know, stretch our arms over our head, out in front of us, swing them around like propellers, get up on our toes, do knee bends, twist from side to side, tilt our head from side to side, roll it in a circle to the left then roll it in a circle to the right and roll our bodies from the spine. Bend from the waist, roll your shoulders and touch your chin to your chest.

BTW, if you are at work, start substituting the above for that afternoon coffee and snack. It is not only healthier but it drives your energy level up a notch or three. Also, those aren't the only stretching exercises known to man. Find those  you like and incorporate them into your routine before you leave the house, at work and when you get home.

Work on improving your...

posture. Some scientists believe your posture can affect your attitude as well as the way you feel, think and act. If you keep your spine as straight as possible you increase your oxygen supply by 30% since slouching supposedly reduces your oxygen intake by 30%.

Oxygen, as we all know, is more than just the air we breathe. If you accompany the above stretching exercises with deep breathing you will not only kick the brain into higher gear, you'll kick more fat out of your body since oxygen keeps burning fat for as long as 45 minutes after you quit your exercise routine.

Did you know...

your body may be out of balance? We humans should have a balance between acid and alkali within our bodies. This balance is referred to as the proper pH. It is the measure of the acidity or alkalinity of a solution.

Solutions of a pH of less than 7.00 are acidic and those with a pH greater than 7.00 are alkaline. Fortunately the body works to keep the right balance. However, humans being humans work to distort the balance.

Stress, too much of certain foods, alcohol, etc. all work to upset the balance. When we get out of whack and become acidic, we tend to put on weight because the body needs more fat to buffer the acidic acids created by body functions.

However when you alkalize the body with proper alkaline foods and drinks you begin to lose the acidic weight. None of this information is meant to be a substitute for your doctor's advice. Rather, it is information you may want to consider before you charge off to your doctor.

Some basic initial steps could not only save you some money but give you information you can pass on to your doctor should you need to go.

If you don't know, read meat, soda, cheese, pork and milk are acid forming foods while vegetables, fruits, soy milk, herbal tea and tofu are alkali forming foods. This list is obviously not a complete list. Do some research to see where the foods you normally eat fall and then make adjustments as necessary.

Before I say good bye...

I want to let you know you will be receiving an email from me this week asking you to visit my squidoo lens. I am trying out some web 2.0 techniques and need your help. The subject of the email will be: Senior Moment - Squidoo Help so you'll know it is from me. Thank you in advance for your help.

Until next issue,

Tom Koziol
