Happy Leap Year!
A recent study out of...
the University of Cambridge in England found that people whose abdominal fat puts them at higher risk for heart disease do not always appear overweight. The study says that calculating a waist-hip ratio instead of looking at waist measurement alone better predicts heart disease risk.

The next time you visit your doctor get more information on this particular subject. You may avoid, or lessen, the heart disease associative risk.
Diabetic nerve and circulation...
damage can leave your feet prone to infection. Always wear well-fitted shoes and nonbinding socks. Thoroughly dry between your toes after showering and report skin changes to your practitioner pronto.

According to the...
Alliance for Community Trees in Colleg Park, Maryland tree canopies and root systems filter water supplies and can save $3.50 in storm water runoff, flooding and erosion costs. They also remove ammonia and sulfur dioxides which saves $5 in air pollution cleanup costs.
And, by cooling the air with shade and evaporated water, a single tree can save $10 in energy costs. I bet you didn't know those trees lining the street or in your backyard were contributing so much to the economy.

Here is an idea on how...
to start an easy savings plan. Start out by selecting one of the letters that are printed on a one dollar bill. Then, every time you buy something and get back one dollar bills, look for that particular letter and put back the one dollar bill that has that letter on it. You will be very surprised how fast they ad up.
For those of us with grandkids, we now have an easy way to set aside a few bucks for their treats. Easy and doesn't anymore to implement.
If you are like me, you are on...
medication. And, if you are like me, you enjoy an occasional beer or mixed drink. That can lead to a dangerous mix (no pun intended). So, to understand Alcohol-Medication Interactions, the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism a part of the National Institutes of Health has a darned good page at:
http://pubs.niaaa.nih.gov/publications/aa27.htm
This is very extensive information worth your time even if you aren't on medication or don't drink. You may know someone who fits the description and can point them to this page.
If you have a friend in...
the hospital and you want to be sure (s)he gets the card should they be discharged while the card is in the mail, put THEIR return address on the envelope. That way, it'll follow them home.
Until next issue,
Tom Koziol
