1/12th of the year gone. Hell of a way to look at it, but...

I saw a headline that read:

"Good Heart Health Starts With You". Now I ask you, doesn't everything you do start with you? Just a thought but the nuns told us kids we were responsible for ALL of our actions. So, by extension, doesn't that apply to our health?

Yesterday was...

Valentine's Day. I noticed on a news show some muslims protested VD by burning VD cards in public. The women were covered head to toe which to me presented a fire danger but who am I. Anyway, happy Valentine's Day to all non-protestors even though I'm a day late.

Tomorrow, 2-16-07, is...

Women's Heart Health Day with the idea being to educte women about cardiac dangers. I would suppose the same cardiac dangers apply to men, wouldn't you?

I read this in one of those...

health oriented magazines. They said the drop in quality of life for overweight women is 4 times that of overweight men. Unfortunately they didn't cite any studies or other supporting evidence. So it may only be worth face value.

Did you know you...

could subtract your age from 220 and multiply it by 70% and you'd have your target heart rate for cardio exercise? If you are 60, you'd get 160 which you'd multiply by 70% to get a target exercise rate of 112. Makes sense to me given my doctor last year (I was 61) said my target rate should be up to 120. I turned 62 on 2-12-07 so I guess my new rate is 112. Regardless, now you at least have a target rate. Happy exercising.

Another did you know...

thyme calms a cough. Thyme, a pungent herb, has been used as an expectorant for centuries. You would be best served by mixing it with vegetable juice or chicken broth.

Here's a mushroom I have never heard of...

but a lot of other people have - reishi. Apparently it has certain substances that not only lower blood pressure but LDL (bad cholesterol) and helps prevent dangerous blood clots. Geez, the doctor gave me coumadin instead.

Well dear subscribers...

that's as healthy as I can keep you this issue.

If you feel like it...
